As a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Northside believes that Christ is our Polar Star.
This maxim has long guided Disciples and helps remind us that we seek to remain focused on Jesus.
Practically, we are a very open, tolerant and progressive community gather in Jesus name. We do not subscribe to any set of beliefs, such as the Apostles or Nicene Creeds. In fact, another old maxim of the Disciples is, 'no creed but Christ.'
Northside is peopled by a wide assortment of beliefs on the nature of the Bible, God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. This is true for most churches, but it is intentional and openly proclaimed as a good thing at Northside.
We all come to faith from different starting points, intersect here at Northside at different places on our journey, and will see things differently. We do not expect all to see the Bible as authoritative in the same way, Jesus as the Son of God in the same way, God as creator or even redeemer in the same way.
What we do expect is to allow God in Jesus and that Love to make us a family. As a family we expect respect and dignity to be shared. We expect to be free of condemnation and open to conversation. We expect to be able to use our minds and our spirits to guide us in a living a personal faith with God in Jesus.
We do share communion every Sunday to any who want it. We do not need to know you or know that you are a Christian. We do not need you to be a Christian at all. Northside is happy to share the Grace of God in Jesus and his memory of his Love in this symbolical meal to any and all.
Northside does practice believers Baptism, which means, if you have not been Baptized and are ready to confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, then at the appropriate time you will be Baptized by immersion. However, if you have been Baptized before, even if you were sprinkled Northside affirms the validity and goodness of that Baptism.
